Dr. Wilsa M.S. Charles Malveaux completed her BA and MA in Psychology at Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA,) and her Medical Degree at Howard University in Washington D.C. She completed her residency training in psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), San Fernando Valley Site, where she was a Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Charles Malveaux has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Outstanding Teaching Resident for her program, the prestigious SAMHSA Fellowship from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and for four years (2014-2018), served on the APA’s Council for Advocacy and Government Relations (CAGR). She has advocated for patients’ rights to equal coverage for mental health treatment under healthcare parity laws, and for healthcare reform to increase access to psychiatric care for those in need. Dr. Charles Malveaux has presented at national and international medical and scientific conferences on the experience of injury and failure in athletes, the stigma of psychiatry among various minorities, and use of social media to educate underserved populations.
Dr. Charles Malveaux, a former elite athlete, has a special focus on Sports Psychiatry, the after effects of traumatic brain injuries, mood disorders, and helping with life/career transitions. She has successfully worked with athletes of varying stages of their career from college scholarship athletes, to professional, and retired athletes. Dr. Wilsa Charles Malveaux currently lends her expertise as a psychiatric consultant to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
