Dr. Clay J. Cockerell is a world-renowned specialist in the care and diagnosis of skin conditions. An internationally recognized pioneer in his field and a board certified Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist, licensed in 23 states, Dr. Cockerell has been practicing medicine since 1986. He currently serves as Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Director of the Division of Dermatopathology, in addition to managing his own practice, Cockerell Dermatopathology based in Dallas, TX, a state-of-the-art, full-service laboratory specializing in Dermatopathology services for dermatologists and other physicians. Dr. Cockerell holds leadership roles as Founder and Owner of Cockerell Dermatopathology in Dallas Texas, Scientific Advisor at PTV Sciences, L.P., and has served as a member of the AmeriPath Board of Directors. He is also active in a number of highly regarded medical groups and is the past President of the American Academy of Dermatology and Past-President of the Texas Dermatological Society among others. Dr. Cockerell previously served as the Secretary and Treasurer and as a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, as well as the past President of the Dallas Dermatological Society. A tireless advocate and trailblazer in the study and treatment of all major skin conditions, Dr. Cockerell has a patent-pending in the U.S. for a revolutionary body wash that provides all-day skin protection from UV light, and has received patents for the product in Australia and New Zealand. He is also a co-owner of TopMD skin care and has been involved in the development of a commercial body wash, CLn body wash. Dr. Cockerell has evaluated well over two million biopsy specimens to date and is considered one of the foremost authorities in his field.

The best in dermatopathology, hands down. I rely on Dr. Clay Cockerell and his team of dermatopathologists who specialize in assisting clinicians in accurately diagnosing skin conditions when skin biopsies are necessary. He and his team are always a phone call away, so I am able to discuss biopsies in more depth when necessary and request special stains and diagnostic tests when the diagnosis remains elusive. It has been a joy having Dr. Cockerell as a colleague, one who is highly respected by fellow physicians. I have consistently relied on his expertise and warm camaraderie with his fellow physicians in caring for our dermatology patients.
