Jeffrey W. Liu, M.D., is an eye surgeon who specializes in treating eye diseases of the cornea and lens, including scars, infections and cataracts. He focuses on improving vision through corneal transplant surgery, cataract surgery, and laser vision surgery, while personally selecting the best technology and techniques for each of his patients. Dr. Liu completed his fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery under the world-renown Roger F. Steinert, M.D. at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. In addition to performing traditional full-thickness corneal transplants, he also performs partial-thickness corneal transplants to provide lower risk of rejection and faster healing times. When necessary, corneal transplants can also be combined with cataract surgery. As a cataract specialist, he routinely performs surgery with a small incision technique for faster healing and more accurate results. He utilizes advanced Lifestyle lenses such as Toric lenses to treat pre-existing astigmatism and Multifocal lenses to reduce dependence on glasses after surgery. Dr. Liu was formerly on faculty at UC Irvine where he taught residents to perform cataract surgery with various techniques. Dr. Liu combines Intralase Laser with Custom Wavefront-guided LASIK to provide patients with superior outcomes. He received his training at the Navy Refractive Surgery Center in San Diego, CA, where he operated on various personnel including Naval Pilots. Dr. Liu has published several peer-reviewed papers on cataract surgery and intraocular lenses. He was invited to write as an expert in the field for Current Opinion in Ophthalmology and Expert Review of Ophthalmology. He recently spoke at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting on the utilization of the ORA Intraoperative Aberrometer to improve the accuracy with toric astigmatism-correcting lenses with cataract surgery. Dr. Liu was also a clinical investigator for Avedro KXL System for Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking while at UC Irvine. Dr. Liu was born and raised in Mesa, AZ. He completed his combined undergraduate and medical degree at Brown University as part of their Program in Liberal Medical Education. He went on to complete his residency at the UC San Diego Shiley Eye Center, where he was elected as chief resident. Dr. Liu speaks Mandarin and loves cooking and trying new recipes whenever he can with his wife. He also enjoys hiking with his dog Ollie and casual games of tennis with his friends.

Dr. Jeffrey Liu joined our practice 2 years ago. I can say from first-hand experience that he relates extremely well to patients and has excellent clinical judgment. He is a talented surgeon, demonstrated by his fine results and by his being selected to teach the Stanford ophthalmology residents in the operating room. After 40 years in practice as a corneal specialist and general ophthalmologist, I am retiring in December 2016. I take great comfort in being able to turn my patients over to Dr. Liu for their continued care.
