Dr. Cosentino never imagined his interests in art, architecture, and science would one day converge in a career in dentistry. Yet as an orthodontist, Dr. Cosentino has been able to do just that. He views orthodontics as the “art and architecture” of the mouth and enjoys the science and creativity of improving patients’ smiles. He knows the importance of looking at the patient and their facial structure as a whole and not just their teeth.
As an undergraduate at Rutgers University, Dr. Cosentino studied Anthropology, Biology, and Art History. After that, he received his dental degree from Columbia University. In 1990, he helped create a program for students to go abroad with various aid groups to help the underprivileged. Through this program, and under the auspices of the International Rescue Committee, he traveled to refugee camps in Pakistan to help educate Afghan refugees and the dentists at the camps, combining his interest in cultural anthropology with his new profession in dentistry. Following dental school, he was a resident at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. After that, it was back to Columbia University, where he continued his training and certification in orthodontics. He has been in private practice on the Upper West Side for over 30 years.
Away from the office, Dr. Cosentino enjoys skiing, sailing, and traveling…and is still interested in art, architecture, and different cultures.
