Dr. Grandhe was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to the Central Valley in Bakersfield, California at the age of 4 where his family has settled down. Dr. Grandhe graduated from medical school with honors at Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai, India before returning home to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at UCLA-Kern Medical. Dr. Grandhe subsequently completed a fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Grandhe comes back home to the Central Valley from Harvard University committed to serving our community with his passion for providing culturally sensitive and compassionate care for medically disadvantaged and underserved populations. Research interests include pain management and Dr. Grandhe is currently engaged in projects utilizing virtual reality as a therapeutic non-opioid intervention for refractory symptom management in patients with advanced illness. His academic interest focuses on the intersection of palliative care with hematology and oncology. Dr. Grandhe has attended national meeting presentations with published abstracts. He has authored numerous scientific papers, book chapters and several photographic fillers in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). In his spare time, Dr. Grandhe loves pursuing his wanderlust, portrait photography, and cooking worldly cuisines!
Palliative care is a branch of The Division of General Medicine at Saint Agnes Medical Center aimed at improving the quality of life for patients living with serious and advanced illnesses. This specialized care focuses on addressing the physical symptoms and stress that often accompany managing a long-term disease. Additionally, palliative care practitioners offer emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families, helping them navigate difficult decisions and coordinate care.
The wide-ranging benefits of palliative care for patients suffering from serious illnesses and conditions, such as cancer, ALS, dementia, and heart failure, are well-documented. These benefits extend beyond physical symptom management to include mental and emotional well-being. For the patient’s family, receiving palliative care support has been shown to alleviate grief and reduce instances of post-traumatic stress. Overall, palliative care significantly enhances patient satisfaction by tailoring interventions to the needs and preferences of the patient. This approach can lead to fewer unnecessary hospitalizations and ICU stays and has even been associated with extending patients’ lives.
The Palliative Care team at Saint Agnes Medical Center comprises professionals from various disciplines, including physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and interfaith chaplains. This multidisciplinary team collaborates closely with your primary care doctors to provide an additional layer of support at any stage of your disease.
